Our Team

TAG professionals have spent years cultivating experience, knowledge, and relationships gained through time spent inside White House Administrations and extensive work on Capitol Hill.  In addition, many members of the TAG team have succeeded in senior level positions within federal agencies, associations, Fortune 100 corporations, entrepreneurial start-ups, and national think tanks.  Many members of the TAG team have been involved in polices, solutions, and business models associated with some of the toughest problems governments and the private sector have solved over the past quarter century.  We are thankful and blessed to have a team that has created, developed, won, and executed significant government related business and we hope to bring our track record of success impact our clients outcomes.


Robert Thompson, Chairman

Mr. Thompson is the Chairman of the Thompson Advisory Group. He advises and assists corporate and government clients on a wide range of public policy issues, lobbying campaigns, and international business ventures. He brings a long history of domestic and international market creation as well as market development surrounding information technology, health care, defense, homeland security, intelligence, infrastructure, and the energy industries. Mr. Thompson has developed a proven track record of effective and timely client advocacy with Members of Congress, the Executive Branch, and senor business executives.


Mr. Thompson provides strategic and tactical guidance to help clients navigate the complex political and business environments in which we work. With a broad network of senior  executive contacts across the federal and state governments and global industry, he is known for his ability to quickly and effectively link clients with relevant legislative, political, Executive Branch, and corporate leaders to accomplish clients' business objectives. Mr. Thompson's specific areas of expertise include:

Prior to starting, Thompson Advisory Group, Mr. Thompson served as Chairman of Jefferson Consulting Group (JCG). He grew JCG to a full service, Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm representing companies and government organizations around the world. While at JCG, he expanded their defense, homeland security, and intelligence business. Mr. Thompson also played a significant role in the formation and execution of policy and programs that balanced the need for security with privacy and civil liberties.


Before his role at JCG, Mr. Thompson founded and ran a lobbying firm in Washington. During his fourteen years as President and Chairman of Thompson & Company, he managed a successful legislative and political consulting practice. He represented health care, trade, international business, international government, banking, and tax interests. In addition to his legislative expertise, he developed strong relationships with officials in the White House, as well as the Departments of State, Commerce, Treasury, Defense, and the Office of the United States Trade Representative.


Prior to Thompson & Company, Mr. Thompson served as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs in the White House under President Reagan. He held this position 1983 and was the driving force behind key economic and social legislation during the Presidents first term.


Mr. Thompson originally came to Washington in December 1980 after the November Reagan-Bush victory. He traveled with Candidate George Bush during the primary and then became Vice President George Bush's first Executive Assistant for Congressional Relations before moving to his White House role for President Reagan.


In addition to his work in Washington, Mr. Thompson has participated in various business investments ranging from real estate to manufacturing to finance.  He has also served on numerous academic, philanthropic and corporate boards.


Outside of work, Mr. Thompson is a loving father.  He is the proud father of seven children; Jamee, Abby, Hallie, Ben, Caitlin, William, and Zack. His children have blessed him with nine grandchildren.

Abby Stewart, Senior Policy Advisor

Ms. Stewart advises a number of information and data solution clients on the privacy and data management implications of various data collection technologies and initiatives. Having worked with both government and commercial clients, Ms. Stewart has a unique management and policy development approach to tackling the inherent challenges posed by the government/ industries need to collect information while simultaneously respecting a citizens privacy.

Her areas of expertise include:

  • Extensive privacy policy and procedure development, compliance, and enforcement
  • Information sharing policy development and compliance
  • Identity authentication
  • Intelligence reform
  • Records standardization
  • Domestic and international use of data and relevant privacy laws and regulations
  • Federal privacy and data use laws and regulations
  • Congressional jurisdiction of privacy issues and concerns


Currently, Ms. Stewart is focused on developing global information sharing and privacy policies for an Inter-modal Containerized Freight Security Program (ICFS). Ms. Stewart also assists Thompson Advisory Group with grant writing and federal marketing for data management clients.


Ms. Stewart has recently assisted several federal agencies, including the Federal Housing Finance Board (FHFB) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) with their web privacy concerns, helping to ensure compliance with federal privacy laws and published privacy policies. Earlier in her career, Ms. Stewart worked as a government contractor for the Transportation Security Administrations CAPPS II project where she helped the agency respond to congressional and agency inquiries and developed and implemented privacy policies and procedures.  

Ms. Stewart was also a director of public policy at the Privacy Council where she helped clients develop and implement privacy policies, performed web audits for government and commercial clients to ensure compliance with privacy statements, and assisted in the development of the firm’s education, training and auditing products. In addition, Ms. Stewart was a law clerk in the federal public defenders office in New Orleans. Louisiana, and was an intern at the Georgetown University Child Development Center. Ms. Stewart received a juris doctor degree from Tulane University Law School and a bachelors degree from Georgetown University.

Nick Clemente, Government Relations Coordinator/Internship Director

Mr. Clemente serves as the Government Relations Coordinator for the Thompson Advisory Group where he works with clients that range from the energy sector, to the technology sector to foreign governments in Southeast Asia. He is a former lobbyist and grassroots organizer for transportation and uranium interests in Virginia. He was instrumental in lobbying the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors in 2012 for the passage of the extension of the Silver Line to Loudoun County.  The Board passed it with a 5-4 vote where Nick leveraged his position as the Republican Youth Coordinator for the Tenth Congressional District to encourage the all-Republican board to vote yes.

 

Prior to this, Mr. Clemente served as a legislative assistant to Delegate Tim Hugo, the Majority Caucus Chair in the Virginia House of Delegates. Mr. Clemente has also served as an economic development advisor and analyst for a commercial real estate company. He has run a total of seven political campaigns starting in college in which he has won each of them by at least ten percentage points. Mr. Clemente has also spent time in the media business where he was an intern for WTTG Fox 5.

 

Mr. Clemnete received the first Masters in Social Entrepreneurship ever awarded at George Mason University this May and he has a B.A. in Communications from Wittenberg University. Please contact Mr. Clemente about internship opportunities.

Puneet Ahluwalia

Mr. Ahluwalia works closely with the Thompson Advisory Group (TAG) on various issues. He is also currently the Co-Chairman of US-India Import Council for the US Chapter. He is in the process of helping U.S. States and companies connect with the large growing mid-large Indian companies with the USIIC members and other major associations of South Asia. This role has enhanced his ability to conduct business development opportunities with Foreign Direct Investment and Public Private Partnerships. In addition he has worked with Sovereign Wealth Funds to explore strategic investment opportunities in emerging sectors and markets for his clients. This expertise has enabled him to work with international companies seeking to enter the US market. This specialization has resulted in fulfillment of his clients vision and goals in areas including Infrastructure, Transportation, Utilities, Information Technologies, Energy, Telecommunications, Health Care, Agriculture, and Finance & Banking. Mr. Ahluwalia is also working on the Immigration Bill in various states to build awareness for the SKILLS VISA ACT that is the foundation of Foreign Direct Investment.

 

In the late 1990s, he immigrated to the United States and became involved in real estate, participating in various aspects of the industry. In 1999 he launched a Mortgage company Loans & Mortgages, LLC. As President and CEO, he successfully grew the company to over 170 employees. The diversified company with multilingual staff specialized in commercial, land and construction loans. The company did business with leading national banks. The business further expanded into providing home and business insurance thru Tysons Insurance, writing policies with Travelers, Hartford and other major national insurance carriers.

 

Mr. Ahluwalia professional abilities have been shaped from his early days in the media business where he learned the importance of crafting a story to enhance a corporation or nations image. He spent time at the Dutch Newspaper NRC Handelsblad and later the Dow Jones Publication Far Eastern Economic Review, as Bureau Manager, a sister company of Asian Wall Street Journal. This experience helped to directly work and facilitate relationships with leading political, business and religious leadership of South Asia. Mr. Ahluwalia graduated from Delhi University in 1988 with specialties in Marketing and Tourism.
